Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. Joseph Brothman died May 20 in his Laurel home. He was 70 years old. The cause of death, according to his wife Margaret Brothman, was amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and a neurodegenerative disease. Brothman was born in Baltimore. He retired from his 25-year job as an officer for MedStar Health in 2015. Among MedStar assignments, he was assistant vice president for information services at Washington Hospital Center. He was a youth basketball, soccer and lacrosse coach. (Washington Post)

2. A suspended Prince George's County police officer was found guilty on charges related to a brutal September 2019 attack on his then-girlfriend. Authorities say 32-year-old Steven Davis brutally attacked her at his home in Laurel. Investigators said he used his service weapon during the incident. Davis was found guilty of all charges related to the domestic assault. He will be sentenced later this summer. Victims of domestic violence can call the Sexual Assault Crisis Center and Hotline at 410-222-6800. (FOX5DC)
3. PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Monica Goldson announced plans for the 2021-22 academic year. Most students should return to classrooms for full-time, in-person learning this fall. A limited virtual learning program and new online campus will also be options for families. (pgcps.org)
