Semi Hits, Kills Woman Along I-95 Near Laurel: Police

Candy Noonan, 73, of Germantown tried to stop her rolling vehicle after it was involved in a crash. She was hit by a tractor-trailer.

LAUREL, MD — A 73-year-old Germantown woman was killed Wednesday shortly after 7 p.m. along I-95 North near Gorman Road in Laurel. According to the Maryland State Police, Candy Noonan drove her Hyundai Accent in front of a tractor-trailer and hit the front right side of the semi.

Noonan went to speak with the other driver and climbed out of her vehicle while it was still in the road, but failed to put her vehicle in park. The Maryland State Police said Noonan's vehicle began to drift driverless toward the center median of the roadway. She tried to climb back into her vehicle and stop it while the semi-driver was moving his vehicle onto the left shoulder. The semi-driver didn't see Noonan, and he hit and killed her.

I-95 North at the scene of the crash was closed until approximately 9:15 p.m. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the incident.
