Tornado Hit Laurel, National Weather Service Reports
The Tuesday night tornado traveled 4 miles, peeling back roofing and leaving other damage in its wake, according to weather officials.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Laurel this week.
The tornado landed southeast of Laurel at 10:02 p.m. and traveled 4 miles until it lifted off east of Scaggsville at 10:13 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
It left behind “scattered damage” in northern Prince George’s County and southern Howard County, the report said.

The report described the impacts as follows:
- Facade damage on commercial building near Fort Meade Road and MD 197
- Tree and roof damage in downtown Laurel, including one residential roof partly peeled back; impacts spanned several blocks bounded by North 2nd Street, Fetty Alley, Avondale Street and Little Patuxent River
- Tree damage near High Ridge substation and in area west of Leishear Road, east of Hammond Middle School

“The tornado lifted Graeloch Road and Helmart [Drive] after producing minor tree damage and producing a load roar that was heard by a National Weather Service/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employee who lives near the endpoint,” the weather service reported.
