Severn Woman Shot At Laurel Woods Elementary School: Police

LAUREL, MD — A woman was shot in the parking lot of Laurel Woods Elementary School on North Laurel Road at 7:42 p.m. Sunday night. The Howard County Police Department reported that Amanda Cavin, 38, of Severn was alert and conscious at the scene. She was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

According to a police report, officers believe a group of people had gathered in the school parking lot Oct. 27 for a remembrance ceremony that wasn't related to the school. Police have since arrested Salvatore Sam Mancini, 34, of Washington Boulevard in Elkridge. Mancini has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and the use of a handgun in a felony. Police reported that Cavin and Mancini know each other.
