Woman Struck By Car, Killed Crossing Street In Laurel
Maryland State Police are investigating a late-night traffic fatality in which a car struck and killed a Silver Spring woman in Laurel.
LAUREL, MD -- Maryland State Police are investigating a traffic fatality, in which a Silver Spring woman was struck and killed by a car Wednesday night in Laurel, according to a police release.
Troopers from MSP's College Park Barracks responded Wednesday, around 11:25 p.m., to eastbound Route 198 at Bauer Lane in Laurel for the report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 54-year-old Silver Spring woman entered the roadway for unknown reasons and was hit by a 2005 Honda Civic. The Honda driver remained on the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Prince George’s County Fire/EMS. Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of next of kin. The victim's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. No other injuries were reported.
Drugs, alcohol, and speeding are not considered as factors in the crash, according to the preliminary investigation.

Following the crash, police closed all Route 198 eastbound and two westbound lanes between Bauer Lane and Bond Mill Road.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
