160 New Coronavirus Cases, 3 Deaths Reported In Montgomery County

The new cases and deaths are reported at a time when more than 407,000 county residents have received at least one dose of the vaccines.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County health officials announced 160 new positive cases of the coronavirus and three new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday at a time when just more than 22 percent of the county’s residents have been fully vaccinated.

The latest additions push the total number of confirmed cases and deaths in the county to 67,773. With the two additional deaths, 1,443 people have died in the county, which represents the highest county-wide death toll in the state, officials said.

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 79,706, according to the latest figures. As of Friday, the county’s positivity rate stands at 2.9 percent and dropped from over 3 percent over the past 24 hours.

Across Maryland, there have been 423,663 cases, 8,238 confirmed deaths, 14 of which have been reported over the past 24 hours, health officials said. The death toll does not include 186 deaths which health officials say are “probable” in terms of being linked to the coronavirus. Of the 1,249 people currently being hospitalized statewide, 286 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As of Thursday, Maryland has administered 3,467,340 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those, 1,836,195 were first doses and 1,446,445 were second doses.

In Montgomery County, 407,882 residents (38.8 percent) have received their first dose. A total of 232,207 residents (22.1 percent) have already gotten their second and final shot.
