2 Silver Spring Men Killed In Boating Accident On Potomac River

Two Silver Spring men were found dead after a boating accident in the Potomac River, officials said.

CHARLES COUNTY, MD — Two Silver Spring men were found dead after a boating accident in the Potomac River Saturday night, officials said.

Their boat was found empty, turning in circles, near Cobb Island in Charles County, according to Maryland's Natural Resources Police.

Officials initiated a search and divers recovered their bodies from the river Sunday morning, police said.

The victims were identified as Silver Spring residents Eriberto Ferrufino, 47, and Franklin Ferrufino, 43.

"Sixteen people died in boating accidents in Maryland waters in the last 18 months. None of them was wearing a life jacket," a Natural Resources Police Tweet reads. "Almost all of them were within sight of shore and in most cases, help was in the way. A life jacket buys you time."

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
