Girl Empowerment Summer Camp Comes To Silver Spring
Students can learn technology and self-empowerment in the Silver Spring summer camp, "Girl-Powered: Changemakers."

SILVER SPRING, MD — Rising sixth through tenth grade girls are invited to participate in "Girl-Powered: Changemakers Camp" in Silver Spring from July 31 to August 4 this summer. This week-long exploration focuses on self-discovery and building girl-positive communities.
Lindsey Turnbull of MissHeardMedia is running the camp at Catylator Makerspace on Georgia Avenue, owned by Stephen Morris.
“Morris teaches the girls some of the technology and I teach the leadership bit and the girl-empowerment bit," Turnbull told Source of the Spring.

Girls will learn from hands-on activities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), and talk with members of the local arts, business, and political communities.
“We also had the idea to bring in a ton of people from the community so that the girls could meet women business owners and women politicians and women leaders from the local area who could teach a little bit of their expertise, whether it’s art or yoga or [to] tell their story of how they got into office," Turnbull said.
