Jazz Festival Returns To Downtown Silver Spring

The Silver Spring Jazz Festival returns to downtown Silver Spring September 9 with an impressive lineup and fun for all ages.

SILVER SPRING, MD — The Silver Spring Jazz Festival returns to downtown Silver Spring September 9 with an impressive mix of jazz, rock, classical, jam band influences and Afro Cuban music.

The event goes from 3-7 p.m. at Veterans Plaza at the Silver Spring Civic Building. The line-up is as follows:

  • 3 p.m. Festival Welcome
  • 3:15 p.m. Jazz Academy of Music
  • 4:30 p.m. Sharp Radway Quintet
  • 5:45 p.m. Chembo & Grupo Chaworó
  • 7 p.m. Marcus Johnson presents The Urban Jam Band
  • 8:30 p.m. Headliner - The Lao Tizer Band featuring Chieli Minucci, Karen Briggs & Eric Marienthal

Keyboardist and composer Lao Tizer will headline the event. Tizer has assembled a group of veteran, exceptional musicians to create a group "dynamic, rich with new melodic, harmonic and improvisational possibilities," a press release states.

Tizer will perform with Chieli Minucci, guitarist and winner of three Emmy Awards; violinist Karen Briggs; and Eric Marienthal, who was voted a favorite alto sax player by Jazziz Magazine’s readers poll.

Admission to the festival is free to the public. Veterans Plaza is located at the corner of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring.
