Maryland Ranked Best State For Teen Drivers
WalletHub released its annual "Best & Worst States for Teen Drivers" report on Tuesday.
MARYLAND — Summer is here, which means that teenagers are out of school and on the roads enjoying the season with their friends.
Lucky for them, Maryland is the best state in the country for teen drivers, according to a new report by WalletHub.
The personal finance website ranked all 50 states across three key dimensions: safety; economic environment; and driving laws. Researchers then evaluated those dimensions using 23 relevant metrics, including the number of teen driver fatalities, the average cost of car repairs, and the presence of impaired driving laws.

Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale. A score of 100 represented the most favorable conditions for teen drivers, according to the researchers at WalletHub.
"We then determined each state's weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample," WalletHub said.

The site crunched the numbers and Maryland received a total of 65.79 points, the most out of all states.
Maryland may be the best state for teen drivers, according to WalletHub. But when it comes to America's best drivers, Baltimoreans were far from the safest behind the wheel. That's according to a new, and completely separate, report by Allstate. For the second year in a row, the insurance company has ranked Charm City drivers the worst in America.
The report was based on how many property damage claims were submitted in the 200 largest U.S. cities from January 2016 to December 2017, using Allstate's internal claims data.
But, focusing on WalletHub's data, Maryland is ranked as the No. 1 best state for teen drivers.
Trailing the Old Line State are New York, Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Texas. The worst state for teen drivers is Wyoming.
