Maryland Senior Olympics Comes to Leisure World
Community hosted lawn bowling and shuffleboard events.

Leisure World of Maryland hosted Maryland Senior Olympics’ shuffleboard and lawn bowling competitions September 13-14, with winners in the shuffleboard events qualifying for next year’s National Senior Olympics in Minnesota next July.
In lawn bowling, Linda Sholl placed first in the 55-59 age range for singles and also first in the 55-59 age range in doubles with her partner Susan Habig. Carlene Jarboe took home the gold in the 65-69 age range in singles and the same age range for doubles with partner Beth Wheeler. Habig also placed first in the 70-74 age range for singles. Habig competed in the 55-59 age range in doubles due to partners competing in the age range of the younger person.
Taking first place in their respective singles shuffleboard competitions for the women were Judy Gilbert (50-54), Beth Wheeler (55-59), Carlene Jarboe (65-69), Susan Habig (70-74), Glo Hong (75-79) and Marilyn Kersler (85-89). For the men, Roger Rohr (50-54), Grant Edwards (60-64), George Izumi (75-79), George Kesler (80-84), and John Dicks (85-89) took gold. The doubles shuffleboard competition took place immediately after and like lawn bowling, competitors were placed in the age range of the youngest partner. Gilbert and Rohr placed first in the 50-54 age range, Sholl and Habig placed first in the 55-59 age range, Jarboe and Yetlie Morales-Macedo placed first in the 65-69 age range, and Hong and Izumi placed first in the 75-79 age range.

Leisure World of Maryland is a private, 610-acre community for adults age 50 and over that is known for its expansive recreational facilities and opportunities. Leisure World is home to more than 8500 residents, as well as to an 18-hole golf course, medical facilities, and multiple clubhouses with restaurants, ballrooms, conveniences and other recreational and educational opportunities. Residents own their homes, paying a monthly fee that includes the entire Leisure World amenity program. The array of housing includes luxury condominiums, townhomes and single-family homes. (more)
Established in 1980, the Maryland Senior Olympics are a non-profit organization for proactive residents aged 50 and above. Each year, MSO offers around 100 events through two-dozen sports with more than participants.
