MARYLAND — The primary election in Maryland was conducted largely by mail due to the coronavirus pandemic. Voters were encouraged to mail in their ballots but were given the option of in-person voting at limited locations, with at least one in-person polling place open in each county and Baltimore City.

In some parts of the state, Marylanders who decided to vote in-person were greeted by long lines and even longer wait times.

State Sen. Bill Ferguson tweeted pictures of polling sites in Baltimore City, saying he couldn't get into the parking lot of Mount Pleasant Church & Ministries because the car line was so long:

Registered Republicans or Democrats voting in their party's primary elections could vote on candidates for president, delegates to the nominating conventions and for the U.S. House of Representatives. Those who aren't affiliated with one of the major political parties could only cast a ballot in the Board of Education contests.

Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination and President Donald Trump won the Republican nomination in the Maryland primary, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris (R) won his primary election, beating conservative Jorge Delgado, according to unofficial election results. So did Democratic incumbent Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, who clinched more than 75 percent of the vote.

In the race for Cecil County executive, Republican Danielle Hornberger snagged more than 60 percent of the votes, according to preliminary results, unseating Cecil County Executive Alan McCarthy.
