Dakota Brothers will be eligible for parole in 2053 after sentencing Friday for trying to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend: media reports.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A Montgomery County man who tried to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend two years ago received a 70-year prison sentence on Friday, according to media reports. Dakota Brothers was 18 when he led 19-year-old Samuela Wolfe along a wooded path in Kensington on Aug. 31, 2016, WRC-TV NBC4 reported.

Brothers then strangled Wolfe until she lost consciousness and stabbed her several times. The young woman was left for dead, but was discovered by passersby who got help, radio station WTOP reported.

The baby was delivered by an emergency cesarean section that day, and Wolfe and the baby survived, say media reports.

Police arrested Brothers a short time later, and he confessed to strangling and stabbing Wolfe, NBC4 reported. He told police he tried to kill her because he wasn't ready to be a father.

Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said that Brothers and the victim were involved in a romantic relationship before he found out that she was pregnant with his baby, say media reports.
