Montgomery Blair standout earns honor as 2019 Student Leader

In May, Montgomery Blair High School student Faith "Mindy" Burton learned that she had been selected to the team of Bank of America Student Leaders® for 2019, one of just 225 high school students nationwide to be chosen for the honor.

Her reward is participation in a summer-long internship program, beginning with a national Student Leadership Summit to be held July 8-12 in Washington, D.C. The Summit includes daily leadership-oriented activities and events, including meetings with their representatives on Capitol Hill and helping the American Red Cross organize the preparation of care packages for active-duty U.S. military personnel.

Miss Burton was chosen as a Bank of America Student Leader due to her preponderant leadership qualities, including editorship of a high school newspaper with circulation beyond campus, and standing as a junior board member for the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.

In 2018, Miss Burton was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal, one of just seven Maryland high schoolers to earn the honor. The list is posted at http://www.congressionalaward.org/national-events/gold-medal-events/2018-gold-medalists.

Since its inception in 2004, the Bank of America Student Leaders® program has provided some 3,500 competitively selected high school juniors and seniors with paid summer internships working with partner non-profits in their local communities. Miss Burton is one of five from the Greater Washington region - and one of two from Montgomery County, along with Valerie Wang of Richard Montgomery High School - to have their applications selected as 2019 Student Leaders.
