Montgomery Blair Student Dies Of Kidney Cancer At 15
A Montgomery Blair High School student has died after a years-long battle with kidney cancer. She was 15.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Amaris Arias, a rising sophomore at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, died last week after a seven-year battle with cancer. She was 15.
The teen lost her battle with kidney cancer on July 23, according to a GoFundMe page set up for Arias. She was diagnosed at the age of 8.
"Despite her difficult trials and through her treatments she always remained active, strong and positive. She loved sports, especially basketball, and listening to music. She was a wonderful big sister and helpful daughter. She will truly be missed by all of her family members," the online fundraiser read.

The fundraiser has a goal of $10,000 — which organizers say will cover Arias' funeral expenses and outstanding medical bills. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe page has raised more than $6,000.
Before she passed away, Arias got the opportunity to play with the Washington Wizards and sign a one-day contract with the team — courtesy of The Make-A-Wish Foundation. She was 10 years old at the time.
