Montgomery Libraries Launch Spring Reading Challenge

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Public Libraries has launched an interactive, online challenge to keep kids and teens reading during the coronavirus pandemic.

The program, called the Beasts and Blooms Spring Reading Challenge, is open to children, up to 17 years of age.

Participants can read anything they choose — ebooks, audiobooks, school books — it all counts.

For every hour of reading (up to eight hours), an online badge is earned.

After reading for eight hours, participants will receive a tote bag (while supplies last), once MCPL branches reopen.

"This is a great opportunity for teens and kids to have fun while reading, whether it's for recreation or for an assignment," said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo.

The challenge ends on May 31.
