SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is launching a new summer speaker series, Food Matters: Foodie Fridays.

The series features regional experts who focus on topics, such as land preservation, urban farming, community food projects, and food access, and highlights stories from area farmers, educators, chefs, community organizers, and food lovers.

Foodie Friday cooks up its first batch of speakers on May 25, featuring Kate Medina and Hannah Sholder, founders of The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming. The session, “Preserving the Legacy of the Iconic Montgomery County Farmer, focuses on the ongoing work taking place at the farm in downtown Silver Spring.

“Food Matters is a showcase of the amazing food projects happening in and around Montgomery County. The speaker series will bring together people who play an integral role in the local food system and highlight their impact in the community,” said Michelle Nelson, community gardens program manager. “It is my hope that people will leave with a greater appreciation for food, not just something we ingest, but with the understanding that it connects, transforms, and uplifts communities.”
