Policing Advisory Commission Application Deadline Is June 19

Want to sit on Montgomery County's first-ever civilian police review commission? Apply by 5 p.m. Friday.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County is accepting applications for membership on its first-ever civilian police review commission. Applications for the three-year appointments are due Friday at 5 p.m.

The 13-member Policing Advisory Commission was created late last year to improve Montgomery Council's oversight of the county police department and build community trust in law enforcement. Appointees will advise councilmembers on policing matters, develop best practices, and engage in public education and other programs.

Of the 13 members, nine will be appointed by the council. The remaining four members will be appointed by the county executive (one must be younger than 25 and the other must be between the ages of 26 and 35).

A representative from the police department and the Fraternal Order of Police will serve as ex-officio members.

"Members should reflect a range of ethnicities, socioeconomic status, and places of origin to reflect the racial and economic diversity of the county's communities ... with emphasis on those disproportionately impacted by inequities," officials said in a statement.

Applicants should submit letters of interest and resumes to County.Council@MontgomeryCountyMD.gov or by mail to:

Sidney Katz
President, Montgomery County Council
100 Maryland Ave.
Rockville, Maryland 20850

Resumes should not be more than four pages in length. Letters should indicate an interest or expertise in policing matters. Applicants may also include how their background and/or experience would contribute to the commission.
