Senior Centers Reopening in Montgomery County June 14

MOCO senior centers have been closed since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, and some reopen for in-person services on June 14.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Senior citizens in Montgomery County will be able to socialize in-person again beginning June 14, as senior centers across the county reopen.

Centers had been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, turning to virtual options instead. The county's recreation department said it will continue to expand those virtual offerings, combining it with more traditional senior center activities (fitness classes, dances, socials) and outdoor events such as hikes and recreational sports.

“Reopening our facilities safely is one of our highest priorities,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley in a news release. “COVID-19 has been hard for everyone and our seniors are one of the hardest hit groups. Throughout the pandemic we have successfully provided virtual programs and outdoor programs, and now we can safely begin the reopening of our Centers.”
