A Senior Living Community Like No Other

Pointe View at Aspen Hill promotes healthy and independent living for all residents.

When Tyrone Johnson and his wife Ann began their apartment search, they were against the idea of moving into a “traditional” senior community. At the age of 69, Tyrone is very active and did not want to feel limited in his home. Many of the apartment buildings they toured were small and did not offer community amenities or activities that aligned with Tyrone’s vibrant lifestyle. It wasn’t until the Johnsons visited Pointe View at Aspen Hill that their opinion on senior communities completely changed.

“It doesn’t have the ‘senior look’ that many of the other buildings we visited had,” said Tyrone Johnson. “It looks like a place where anybody of any age would want to live.”

Pointe View at Aspen Hill is a 120-unit, mixed-income community for seniors located in Silver Spring, Maryland. From first glance, the Johnsons thought Pointe View at Aspen Hill looked like a nice, modern hotel. Ann, who is interested in interior decorating, loved the up-to-date features and was very impressed with the apartment’s contemporary finishes, including the ceiling fans, Luxury Vinyl Tile floors, modern kitchen with dishwasher, and spacious ceramic tiled baths. Having moved from a smaller home, the single-floor layout was critical for Ann, who struggles with mobility due to her arthritis.

At the time the Johnsons moved into their new apartment, the coronavirus pandemic was just beginning. Access to a variety of community amenities, including the community room, fitness center, hair salon, business center, and weekly resident activities, was limited due to social distancing guidelines implemented by the state. Once the community amenities re-open, Tyrone looks forward to taking advantage of the fitness center, while Ann is excited to get her hair done at the on-site salon.

In addition to on-site amenities, Pennrose has partnered with The Senior Connection to provide residents with a variety of programs and resources to help them maintain and prolong their ability to live independently, such as a grocery shopping program and assistance with bills and other household paperwork.

Location was another important factor for the Johnsons. They were in search of a neighborhood that was nearby public transportation so they could easily access grocery stores, shopping, dining, and other retail options. Since moving in, Tyrone has taken advantage of the convenient access to both the Montgomery County Transit Ride-On and WMATA bus lines. Pointe View at Aspen Hill is also closely located to Montgomery County’s largest senior center.

Throughout the application and move-in process, the Johnsons worked closely with Pennrose staff to ensure their move was seamless and stress-free. “The leasing staff were great with any concerns or worries we had. They always assured us that they were there to help with whatever we needed,” adds Tyrone. “After seeing the apartment, we were really excited to move in and Pennrose assisted us with the process every step of the way. It was heartwarming how they acted more like a member of our family.”

Pointe View at Aspen Hill is now leasing for summer 2020 and waiving August rent for residents who sign their lease by July 31st. More information about the community and leasing can be found here.
