Silver Spring Mother's Day Superstar: Donna Wright
"The very best thing about my mom is that she thinks she is my #1 fan, but in reality, I'm hers."

We asked our readers to send us their amazing mom stories for Mother’s Day and received some very special ones. This nomination comes from Kelly, a grateful daughter who shares a beautiful tribute to her mom, admitting she was ”a little teary-eyed after writing it.”

Why my mom rocks: My mother rocks because she is the most caring, most passionate, most welcoming, sweetest, and absolutely the strongest woman I know. I strive to be like her as she always puts our family, friends, peers, strangers, and just every single person she encounters, before herself. My mother is the reason for the career path I have chosen, as I developed a passion for arts, graphic design, and visual communication by watching her work and being absolutely amazed by her creativity and designs when I was growing up.

One of the greatest things I can say about my mom is that since I have been dancing my entire life through different dance studios, companies, pom squads, and semi-pros teams, she has NEVER missed one of my dance performances. She is always there to support me and has sacrificed many of her weekends and spent many early mornings and late nights to make hair bows, curl hair, sew costumes, feed the entire team and more, drive to competitions and events, and the list goes on and on. I can honestly say that I have danced in front of thousands of people, but the fact that my mom is always there to watch me makes every performance that much better.
My mom has also taught me many valuable things, with a few that I will always remember and preach:
- Do the very best that you possibly can and move on. Your best is all you can do.
- Even when life gets difficult and times are tough, keep your faith.
- Family comes first. Always.
- Don’t ever go to bed mad.
- Smile lots, laugh hard, make good memories, and take tons of pictures!
Lastly, the very best thing about my mom is that she thinks she is my #1 fan, but in reality, I’m hers.
Today we are wishing a very happy Mother’s Day to all of our superstar moms. Thanks for all that you do.
