Silver Spring Things To Do: Drag Salute to Divas, Monarch Fiesta, Latino Heritage Festival

SILVER SPRING, MD — Here are some of the theater productions, live music performances and other weekend activities happening Sept. 16-18, courtesy of theMyMCMedia.org calendar:
Friday, September 16:
- Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square features Dan Haas Band playing pop and rock country at 6:30 p.m. Free.
- Celebrate Latino Heritage Month at the Silver Spring Civic Building with cultural exhibits, music and performances at 7 p.m.
- Round House and Olney Theatres co-produced Angels in America: Millennium Approaches which opened last week. Tonight’s performance is set for 7:30 p.m. A few tickets are left for #FreeBeerFriday.
- The AFI Latin American Film Festival opened Thursday and continues through Oct. 5. Find a list of films, here.
- It’s Dance Night at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club with music by The Beat Hotel and The Rhoedes Tavern Troubadours at 8 p.m.
- Landless Theatre Company in partnership with Arts on the Green present the The Mystery of Edwin Drood at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 8 p.m.

- Brookside Gardens host a special family Honey Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn all about honeybees and have some fun.
- It’s Monarch Fiesta Day at the Black Hill Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Bluegrass on the Farm offers a day of good, old-time bluegrass and traditional music in an early 20th century farm setting at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood.
- The 24th Annual Poolesville Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. The day starts earlier for runners who want to participate in the 5K run or walk and the parade opens the day’s festivities at 10 a.m.
- The Small Press Expo (SPX), which features independent comics and cartooning, takes place at the Marriott Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- The C&O Canal Trust hosts the Sixth Annual Park After Dark fundraiser to benefit the C&O Canal National Historical Park (NHP) at 6 p.m.
- The city of Gaithersburg’s free concert at the Concert Pavilion features Guys in Thin Ties.
- Round House Theatre’s production of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches takes place at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 18:
- The county’s final free rabies vaccination clinic takes place from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
- The Small Press Expo (SPX), which features independent comics and cartooning, takes place at the Marriott Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at Olney Winery from 6 to 9 p.m. with a wine tasting event.
- BlackRock Center for the Arts screens the film “Sweet Dreams” about Rwanda’s first women’s drum troupe, Ingoma Nshya, and their partnership with two young Americans to open Rwanda’s first ice cream shop. Following the screening will be a performance by a local drum group, an interactive drum circle, and an ice cream social.
