Silver Spring Weekend: Taste of Bethesda, 2 Harvest Festivals, District Comedy
"The Diary of Anne Frank," rescue squad open house, Rockville Speakeasy, Melba Moore at blues club + more Montgomery County weekend events.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Here are some of the theater productions, live music performances and other weekend activities happening Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
Friday, September 30:
- Be transported back in time for a Speakeasy at the Beall-Dawson Museum in Rockville. Dance the Charleston with the jazz band, enjoy cocktails, get a sneak preview of the museum’s upcoming 1920s exhibit, and show off your best flapper attire in a photo booth.
- Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square wraps up for the season with Yellow Dubmarine playing Reggae at 6:30 p.m. Free. (Check Rockville Town Square Facebook for any weather cancellations.)
- VisArts annual Off The Wall event begins at 7:30 p.m. Purchase a ticket for $25 and choose an original 15″ x 20″ painting by a VisArt instructor.
- Olney Theatre presents The Diary of Anne Frank at 7:45 p.m.
- AMP by Strathmore presents jam band giant Rusted Root at 8 p.m.
- The AFI Latin American Film Festival continues through Oct. 5. Find a list of films, here.
- Round House Theatre’s production of Angels in America: Perestroika takes place at 7:30 p.m.
- Jazz pianist Andy Milne performs a solo performance at Sandy Spring Museum’s Jazz in the Round series tonight at 8 p.m.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club present Sarah Dash at 8 p.m.
Saturday, October 1:

- Taste of Bethesda includes over 50 restaurants and five stages of entertainment. Admission is free, ample free parking is available in downtown Bethesda’s public garages. Tickets to taste are $5 for four tickets.
- The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad’s Open House takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conjunction with Taste of Bethesda.
- The Damascus Harvest Festival features entertainment, food, a pumpkin patch, paint your own pumpkins, fall themed games, activities and a local business fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Activities Center.
- Experience farm life from the 1850s to the present at the 25th annual Harvest Festival at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Learn how to save water and energy at Energy Exploration, an interactive experience for all ages, at Olney Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Olney Theatre presents The Diary of Anne Frank at 1:45 and 7:45 p.m.
- It’s comedy night at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club with Joe Clair & Friends with two shows, 7 and 10 p.m.
- BlackRock Center for the Arts presents District Comedy at 8:30 pm.
Sunday, October 2:
- Olney Theatre presents The Diary of Anne Frank at 1:45 p.m.
- Round House Theatre’s production of Angels in America: Perestroika takes place at 2 p.m. A panel discussion takes place after the performance.
- AMP by Strathmore presents Blue Highway performing bluegrass at 8 p.m.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club presents rhythm & blues singer and actress Melba Moore at 8 p.m.
