Weekend Track Work on the Red Line

The Takoma station will be closed this weekend.

Buses replace Red Line trains this weekend between the Silver Spring and Fort Totten Metrorail stations, to make room for scheduled weekend track work, according to Metro's website.

Between 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, and Sunday Oct. 20, Red Line trains will run:

  • Between Shady Grove and Fort Totten: Every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and at regular weekend intervals at other times.
  • Between Glenmont and Silver Spring: Every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and at regular weekend intervals at other times.

Within the work zone, the free shuttle buses will operate on two routes:

  • Express buses will travel between the Silver Spring and Fort Totten stations with no intermediate stop at Takoma, which will be closed to trains. Allow 15 minutes of travel time, Metro advised.
  • Local buses will travel between Silver Spring and Fort Totten with an intermediate stop at Takoma. Allow 10 minutes of travel time between each station, Metro added.

Note that the last Red Line train of the night from Glenmont to Silver Spring will depart 27 minutes earlier than normal to allow for shuttle bus connections.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the last train will leave Glenmont at 2:10 a.m., and on Sunday, the last train will leave Glenmont at 11:10 p.m.

Regular service will continue through the weekend on the Yellow, Orange and Blue lines.

On the Green Line, there will be regular weekend service except during daytime hours at Greenbelt Station. Read more about the Green Line this weekend on Metro's website.

Note: Metrorail will open two hours early—at 5 a.m.—on Sunday for the Army Ten-Miler race.
