Andover Feels The Pinch Of A $2.5 Million Winter

And that doesn't even include the cost of picking up trees and limbs that fell during winter storms.

ANDOVER, MA -- Winter snow removal cost the town $2.5 million, more than doubling the $1.2 million Andover had budgeted. And town officials say that cost is just for snow removal: they're still trying to calculate the total cost for tree and limb removal that started with October's wind and rain storm and continued through a series of winter snow storms.

Residents who will spend this almost spring-like weekend cleaning up brush -- you're out of excuses as there's no snow in the forecast -- can purchase a $25 permit to bring brush to Bald Hill Composting facility. Republic Services, the town's trash collection contractor, is also accepting brush, providing it no larger than six inches in diameter and four feet long. Bundles must be under 50 pounds, and you can only dispose of four bundles per week.
