Andover Garden Club Keeps Active During Pandemic

Club Finds Innovative Ways to Pursue Mission of Sharing Horticultural and Environmental Knowledge

Over the past year, the Andover Garden Club has leveraged technology to ensure that members can continue to participate in club activities, despite the pandemic. Most meetings take the form of interesting and educational virtual presentations, but occasionally the club finds ways to participate in “real life” events.

One such activity was this winter’s Holiday Stroll & Parade of Trees at The Trustees’ Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover. A design team from the Andover Garden Club (including president Heather Moody Homan, vice president Caroline Grady, and members Laura Bibler, Anne Feeney, and Issy Seeley) decorated a tree with the theme of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

The Grinch tree was just one of a number of festively decorated offerings created by community organizations. Attendees voted for their favorites by leaving canned good in boxes placed at the base of the trees; the food was subsequently donated to Neighbors in Need for its food pantries.

The Andover Garden Club is continuing to meet virtually as the 2020-2021 club year progresses. While members have reacted enthusiastically to the online programs, they are looking forward to a time when they can once again gather safely together.
