Andover High '15 Gabe Hernandez Passes Away After Methuen Crash

Gabe Hernandez passed away Monday, according to an update posted by his high school baseball team.

ANDOVER, MA — Andover High School grad Gabe Hernandez passed away Monday, a week after getting in a serious car crash, the AHS baseball team said on Facebook. Hernandez, 22, was ejected from a vehicle when it crashed into a fieldstone wall in Methuen, Methuen police said. He was taken to a local hospital and passed away "with family and friends by his side," according to the team Facebook post.

Hernandez was a captain of the team. He graduated in 2015.

"A 2006 Audi convertible was operating eastbound on North Lowell Street," Methuen police said. "As the vehicle approached the area of 215 North Lowell Street, for unknown reasons, left the roadway, proceeded onto the shoulder, collided with a fieldstone wall and subsequently came to final rest in the wooded area."

The car's other occupant, Matthew Spanner, 19, of Methuen, was also thrown from the car. He was listed in stable condition.

AHS Baseball asked on Facebook that people send prayers and support for Hernandez and his family.
