Cold Forces Feaster Five To Scale Down Event

Organizers of one of the biggest New England road races canceled the kids run and five-mile race scheduled for Thursday.

ANDOVER, MA -- Add the Feaster Five to the growing list of Thanksgiving traditions now in flux because of the record-setting cold weather forecast for Thursday. The race organizer said Tuesday they have canceled the kids run and the five-mile road race, but will still hold the 5k race.

"This is always a challenging decision to make, but you obviously want to decide on the side of safety," race manager Dave McGillivray told the Eagle-Tribune, which first reported this story. Runners that registered for the five-mile race will automatically be entered in the 5k. Kids who signed up for the kids run will still receive medals.

The Feaster Five started in 1987 and since then has grown to be one of the biggest Thanksgiving Day road races in New England, and one of the biggest road races in Massachusetts. More than 10,000 people, as well as hundreds of volunteers, participate in the race annually.
