Drone Manufacturer Stays In Andover

PSI decides to stay and expand in Andover.

ANDOVER — Physical Sciences Inc., a drone manufacturing company that provides drones for the U.S. Army, will remain in Andover, the Eagle-Tribune reports.

PSI creates advanced drone technologies for a wide variety of commercial and government uses, according to the company website.

The Eagle-Tribune reports that PSI recently sought and received a variance in Salem, N.H. that would allow them to test their miniature aircraft, called InstantEye, outdoors, and expand operations.

But after working with Andover town officials, PSI chose to sign a five-year lease for 33,000 square feet of research and development space at 6 Riverside Drive in Andover, the newspaper reports.

The Riverside Drive site is close to their corporate headquarters at 20 New England Business Center Drive.

PSI’s history is in making sensors for other industries allows them to create drones that can sniff for poison gas, and detect heat in wires.

Soldiers use InstantEye to look for enemies over the next hill, but also for conducting humanitarian missions in disaster zones, where they can deliver cell phones to people who are stranded, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

InstantEye, which has 36 employees, will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSI, which employs about 140 and will remain in the headquarters, the newspaper reports.
