The iconic diner has been in business for 40 years.

Lantern Brunch, a staple of downtown Andover for 40 years, will close its doors for good on Saturday, May 28 during Memorial Day weekend.

Owners George and Priscilla Dukas have been transitioning towards retirement for the last two years, and the time has come for the Lantern Brunch to close its doors.

“It is with mixed emotions that we announce we will be closing our doors after 40 years in business on Saturday, May 28, 2016,” the Dukas’ said in a written statement. “We offer our sincere thanks to our customers and staff for their loyalty and friendship, and will always treasure the many memories they gave us. We wish you all the best.”

However, according to the restaurant’s landlord, John Fenton, another buyer has already come forward and has plans for the Lantern Brunch.

According to Fenton, the restaurant will be closed for the duration of the summer while it undergoes renovations. Fenton wouldn’t disclose the new buyer’s identity, but said that it is a local well-known family that plans to keep the Lantern’s iconic counter while making it more spacious, as well.
