Lawrence Man Arrested In Connection With Fatal April Crash
A 29-year-old Lawrence man was charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of Gabriela Hernandez of Lawrence.

LAWRENCE, MA — A Lawrence man was arrested Thursday morning as a suspect in the April 29 car crash that killed Gabriela Hernandez, 24 of Lawrence.
Pedro Nieves, 29 of Lawrence, was arrested by the state police's Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and Lawrence Police Chief Roy Vasque said.
He was due to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court for manslaughter by motor vehicle, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and other related charges.

On April 29, a 20-year-old Lawrence woman was driving a black 2011 Honda Civic on Winthrop Avenue in Lawrence when her car was hit by a gray 2006 Acura driving on South Union Street.
The driver was seriously injured and flown to a Boston hospital, while her passenger, Hernandez, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Prosecutors say Nieves was driving the Acura. He had two passengers, a 31-year old Lawrence man and a 29-year old Methuen man, who were treated at Lawrence General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
