John (Jack) F. Doran, age 96, a longtime resident of the Andover/Lawrence, Mass. area (1964-2012), died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Bellamy Fields in Dover, NH where he had resided for the past several years.
Born in Brooklyn, NY October 8, 1918, he was the son of Louisa (Geib) Doran and grew up in the Stamford, CT. He attended Kings School in Stamford CT, graduated secondary school from Loomis in Windsor CT in 1936, and graduated from Yale University in 1940 where he was active in the Outing Club and the Navy ROTC program.

Jack was a valued business man, story teller, and gentleman and loved by family and friends. He had a fulfilling life that included many areas of contribution. During World War II, he served in the Navy which included: as an instructor of Midshipmen in NY, Commander of a Landing Ship (LSM-166), landing on Okinawa, and operating the harbor of Yokoama Japan after their surrender. His career as an Industrial Engineer included: Naugatuck Footwear Company in Naugatuck CT (1954-56), Chase Brass and Copper in Waterbury CT, Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls NY (1961), American Optical in Southbridge MA (1962), J.W. Greer in Wilmington MA (1962-66), and Raytheon Corporation in Andover and Lexington MA (1966-1990).
Jack’s post career accomplishments included: Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts (1992-2011). During his near full-time positions at the Diocese, he contributed extensively including the following assignments and achievements: member Board of the Trustees of Donations, Mission Focus Co-Chair, critical member of the committee responsible for building the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center in Greenfield NH, member of the Diocesan Council, member of the Finance Committee, and a member the Stokes Fund Loan Committee. In November, 2000 Jack received an award presented at the Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, by M. Thomas Shaw SSJE and Barbara Harris stating that, “You are a beloved, devoted indefatigable and preeminent volunteer member of the diocesan staff.”

Jack was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Weidig Doran, who died in 1975. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Appleby-Doran of Harwich Port, MA, his son Kenneth Doran of Lawrence MA, his daughter and son-in-law Susan (Doran) Marique and Gary Marique of Milton, NH; his grandson Nicholas Marique and wife Danielle with great-grandchildren Lillian, Kaylinn and Emilie, his granddaughter Melissa Marique and Ryan Bernard with great-grandchildren Layla and Bella of Rochester, NH; and Rebecca Marique of Malden, MA.
The entire family would like to thank the staff of Bellamy Fields in Dover, NH for their compassionate care during his stay at their facility.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Church, Andover, MA with a reception to follow. The burial will be in Stamford, CT, Woodland Cemetery in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the: Jack Doran Fund C/O John Koch, Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center, 108 Wally Stone Ln, Greenfield, NH 03047. All funds will go to the memorial gift for the Jack Doran Lakeview Center (the BCH Camp & Conference assembly building dedicated in Jack’s name in 2003).
