One In Five Andover Residents Have Gotten At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

The state's plan to prioritize the most vulnerable residents is showing in Andover, where seniors have received the most vaccinations.

ANDOVER, MA — Twenty-two percent of the town's 36,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The statewide figure is also 22 percent.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Andover, where those 65 or older have received the majority of vaccinations. Seventy-eight percent of those 75 or older have received at least one dose and 54 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Sixty-three percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 14 percent are fully vaccinated.

Overall, 8,064 of 36,064 residents in Andover — 22 percent —have received at least one dose and 3,966 — 11 percent — are fully vaccinated.

The data also includes vaccination rates by race, ethnicity and sex for each city and town, as well as by zip code.

In Andover, Black residents have been vaccinated at the highest rate: 17 percent of Black residents have been fully vaccinated. Just 3 percent of Hispanic residents have been fully vaccinated; 14 percent of multi-racial residents, 11 percent of white residents and 7 percent of Asian residents have.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed continued improvement in Andover. The positive test rate fell below 2 percent for the first time in weeks.
