Open Rehearsals for Andover Choral Society's

Andover Choral Society, directed by Dr. Michael Driscoll, invites those who enjoy singing classical choral music to celebrate our 90th season by singing in our spring concert, which will focus on the diverse contributions of composers from the Merrimack Valley. Open rehearsals will be held on Monday, February 3 and Monday, February 10 from 7:20 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at Christ Church, 33 Central Street, Andover. All voice parts are welcome.

The concert will feature the premiere performance of becoming, a new work by Andover-based composer Demetrius Spaneas. Drawing on texts from ancient Indian Hinduism, Greek and Roman mythology, Sufi mysticism, and the Book of Genesis, this piece explores the idea of creation as a spiritual evolution of humankind as well as our relationship with our world and all of creation.

The concert will also include works by other composers with local connections, including Leonard Bernstein, world renowned composer and conductor from Lawrence; Kevin Siegfried, composer, professor at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Andover resident; and Gwyneth Walker, composer of over 300 works and a graduate of Phillips Academy.

Andover Choral Society will perform the concert on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 50 Bartlet Street, Andover.

High school juniors and seniors are invited to sing with the Andover Choral Society through the chorus’s Choral Scholars Program. Funded by grants from several local cultural councils, the program is free to students from any town if they are currently in good standing in their high school choruses.

Andover Choral Society is dedicated to presenting exceptional performances, connecting to the larger community, and fostering an appreciation of choral music. The chorus performs two concerts per year, singing a repertoire that focuses on fine choral and choral-orchestral works from the Baroque era to the present day.
