Pruning Advice for Homeowners and Gardeners

The Andover Garden Club March meeting will feature a pruning presentation by Lifetime Master Gardener Gretel Anspach.

Good pruning is essential to the health and appearance of shrubs, trees, and vines, but many homeowners and gardeners are wary of attempting the task or mistakenly rely on out-of-date techniques that actually harm rather than help plants.

To the rescue comes Gretel Anspach with her presentation on pruning woody plants. She will discuss the science behind when, how, and why to prune and will offer pruning basics and beyond. Her talk may also help attendees economize by identifying those plants that may properly be pruned by a home gardener and those that require the services of a professional.

Anspach is an Overseer of the Mass. Horticultural Society, a Lifetime Master Gardener, and past President of the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association.
