14 Beverly Cyclists Set To Ride In Pan-Mass Challenge

The two-day bike-a-thon returns this year to raise money for cancer research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

BEVERLY, MA — Fourteen Beverly cyclists are among the more than 6,000 riders registered for the return of the Pan-Mass Challenge this summer.

The two-day, 211-mile bike-a-thon will be Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 with all funds raised going to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Last year's event was held "virtually" amid the coronavirus crisis and still raised $50 million.

Over its 41-year history, the Challenge has raised $767 million for cancer research.

"We couldn't be more excited to bring our passionate PMC riders, volunteers, donors and sponsors back together in person for PMC Ride Weekend this year," PMC founder Billy Starr said in a statement. "With fully supported routes and 'Reimagined' options, everyone can customize their PMC experience to join us in the fight against cancer.

"Cancer doesn't stop for anything, even a global pandemic, and funding for research, treatment and care is as critical as ever."

Riders will have 16 different routes to choose from ranging from 25 to 211 miles.

Some spots are still available.

The registered riders from Beverly are Rick Alpern, Todd Balf, Roberta Brown, Mary Campagnolo, Judy Dirubio, Jake Holbrook, Rion Manita, Terry Martel, Stephen Martel, William Mead, Roosevelt Mesa, Sarah Poulin, Randall Sword and Mary Whitcher-Bagaco.
