$480K Grants Meant to Improve Beverly Waterfront

Beverly received two state grants to improve recreational and commercial activity on the city's waterfront.

BEVERLY, MA – Two grants from the Baker-Polito administration's Seaport Economic Council will help recreational and commercial waterfront activity in Beverly.

A $400,000 grant will help replace the anchor system for the Glover Wharf recreational docks. The new system will use guided piles.

"The project will address important safety and equipment concerns for boaters and staff, and will reduce long-term costs with maintaining the dock system," said a statement from the city announcing the grants.

The second grant, for $80,000, will create a Municipal Harbor Plan to define commercial and recreational activity for the waterfront, and strengthen the local economy. The plan will catalogue existing and potential uses for the waterfront, consider actions to enhance waterside activities, come up with solutions to transportation problems, look at how to link the waterfront to the downtown, and recommend policies regarding the waterfront.

"Due to the hard work by many, including the Harbor Management Authority, the city’s Planning Department and Grants Director, Beverly is now positioned to move forward with two important projects on our water front," Mayor Mike Cahill said in a statement. "We are very thankful to the Governor and his administration for their support for these projects."
