Beverly Hazardous Waste Collection Day Draws A Crowd

The city reported more than 400 vehicles participated in the collection day for Beverly and Salem residents.

BEVERLY, MA — If traffic was a little slow going around Beverly High School on Saturday it was all for a good reason.

Hazardous waste was being responsibly jettisoned from households throughout Beverly and Salem.

Beverly officials reported 416 vehicles took part in the household hazardous waste day for residents of both cities on Saturday.

"We're proud to offer this event to Beverly and Salem residents," the city said. "providing a way to dispose of waste in an environmentally responsible manner.

"Many thanks to the Beverly Health Department, Beverly Board of Health and Beverly police for organizing and working at this program."

Items accepted included: drain cleaners, house cleaners, oven cleaners, furniture polishes, dry cleaning supplies, art and hobby supplies, fluorescent bulbs, thermostats and thermometers.

Pesticides, rodent spray, insect killers, pool chemicals, cesspool cleaners, propane tanks. Auto antifreeze, brake fluid, wax polish, radiator fluid, transmission fluid, car batteries, oil, gasoline.

Rust preventers, wood preservatives, oil-based paint, paint thinners, wood strippers, solvents, degreasers, sealants and creosote.

Car tires were also accepted.
