Beverly Residents Targeted In Scam Attempts
Beverly police say several residents reported receiving "grandparents" scam phone calls.
BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police are warning residents of a phone scam they said has targeted several city households in recent weeks.
Police said residents reported getting calls from local police requesting money to help a relative in need.
"Beverly police will not call people requesting bail for a loved one," police said.

The scam is commonly known as the "grandparents" scam because the targets tend to be older adults who are told one of their grandchildren was at fault in an accident and needs bail money sent immediately.
Those targeted in the scam are often told the grandchild has requested their help and have asked not to tell anyone about their predicament.

Police urged residents never to send money to anyone who calls unsolicited and requests or demands money — even if that call comes from a trusted number.
Swampscott police also recently reported residents receiving scam calls from what appeared to be the Swampscott Police Department's business line.
