Beverly, Salem Hazardous Waste Collection Day

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly and Salem residents doing some spring cleaning over the next couple of weeks can drop off many household hazardous waste products at Beverly High School on April 24.

The dropoff day is available to residents of both cities with a $20 per car co-pay fee. Coronavirus protocols will be followed with masks required for all those attending and materials placed in trunks, truck beds or SUV hatchbacks for curbside removal.

The dropoff will run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Liquid chemicals must be in the original or tightly packed containers in sturdy boxes padded with newspapers.

Items accepted include: drain cleaners, house cleaners, oven cleaners, furniture polishes, dry cleaning supplies, art and hobby supplies, fluorescent bulbs, thermostats and thermometers.

Pesticides, rodent spray, insect killers, pool chemicals, cesspool cleaners, propane tanks.

Auto antifreeze, brake fluid, wax polish, radiator fluid, transmission fluid, car batteries, oil, gasoline.

Rust preventers, wood preservatives, oil-based paint, paint thinners, wood strippers, solvents, degreasers, sealants and creosote.

Car tires are also accepted.

Items NOT accepted include: TVs and electronics, motor oil, latex paint and driveway sealers, smoke detectors, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, helium tanks, air compressors, prescription medicine, syringes, commercial or industrial waste, asbestos, infectious biological waste and radioactive waste.
