Beverly's Kevin Shrayer Named A State Crossing Guard Champion

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly's Kevin Shrayer was honored as one of the state's five Crossguards of the Year out of 173 nominations at the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Awards ceremony.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation held the virtual ceremony to recognize community champions and crossing guards "in their efforts to allow and encourage students to safely walk, bike and roll to school."

"The Safe Routes to School Program serves as a great resource for communities statewide to help facilitate pedestrian and bicycle safety," Acting Transportation Secretary and CEO Jamey Tesler said. "Through one-on-one trainings with individual schools, annual flagship events, technical assistance and assessments and changes to infrastructure surrounding schools, the Safe Routes to School initiatives make it easier and safer for families to develop healthy habits and routines."

Shrayer was named a Crossing Guard Champion, along with Rosemary Chirillo of Hingham and Annette Dilley of Braintree.

Dave Leger of Leomonister was chosen as the Crossing Guard of the Year winner and Jim Laramie of Marblehead was named an honorable mention.
