Bicycle Hit and Run and a Possible Lost Baby at Beverly Hospital

The following is an excerpt from the Beverly Police Department:

Friday, Feb. 1

  • A loud group was reported on Elliott Street at 1:24 a.m. Police said when they arrived there was no one on scene and the area was quiet.
  • Two males were reported fighting outside on Broughton Drive at 3:56 a.m.
  • A possible missing baby was reported at Beverly Hospital at 12:45 p.m. The situation turned out to be unfounded; the baby was with its mother in the recovery unit.
  • A bag found full of mail, journals, and other personal items was turned in to police at 1:47 p.m. 
  • A suspicious truck was reported on Rantoul Street at 3:25 p.m. Police spoke to the people at the truck, who were construction workers just waiting for their boss. 
  • At 4:42 p.m. police were called to a Dane Street residence on report of an 'unknown drunk male in the back yard.' The man was placed in protective custody.
  • Police were called to the area of Bridge Street and Folger Avenue at 5:16 p.m. on report of DirectTV solicitors. Police asked them to leave the area.
  • An Endicott student reported receiving threatening text messages at 5:42 p.m.
  • A drunk man disturbing a group of kids was reported to police at 6:47 p.m. on Rantoul Street. Police said there was no basis for the call.
  • A larceny was reported at a restaurant on Rantoul Street at 7:02 p.m.
  • Police were called to Not Your Average Joe's at 7:41 p.m. on report of a strange situation, where the caller believed two patrons at the restaurant may have had something suspicious going on, or the young girl did not want to be there with the man. Police spoke to the two in question, who laughed at the implication.
  • A brother-sister argument was reported on Cabot Street at 8:16 p.m.
  • At 8:43 p.m. a Charnock Street resident reported someone had come into her house. Police said the situation is still under investigation.

Saturday, Feb. 2

  • A disturbance on Whitney Avenue was reported at 1:38 a.m. Police asked them to quiet down.
  • Police were called to Apple Road, on report of a vehicle that rolled down the hill at 4:39 p.m., hitting other vehicles parked on the road.

Sunday, Feb. 3

  • At 12:27 a.m. police responded to a loud party on Hale Street.
  • Police were called to River Street at 8:36 a.m. on report of a possible break-in, as an air conditioner was reported missing. Police said a demolition crew had gutted the building before its demolition next week, and the AC had been removed by them.
  • At 8:44 a.m. a bicycle hit-and-run was reported near Essex and Forest Street. A woman told police she was driving toward the stop sign when a young boy on a bicycle struck her car causing minor damage and scratching. When the woman attempted to get information from the boy, he reportedly took off.
  • Police were called to Rantoul Street on report of intoxicated people yelling and playing loud music at 2:47 p.m.
  • Tires were reported slashed on a vehicle on Manor Road at 2:55 p.m.
  • Police were called to the area of Kernwood and Crescent Avenue on report of a man throwing items at cars. When police searched the area, they did not locate him.
  • At 8:38 p.m. police arrested James Britton, 52, of 24 Home St. in Beverly, as a courtesy booking for Gloucester Police.
