Business Owners Want New Liquor Licenses to Carry the Same Costs

During a city council meeting, Mayor Bill Scanlon discussed his request from the council for more liquor licenses for the city.

While the Beverly City Council considers adding more liquor licenses to the the city's 36 existing licenses, business owners want to make sure that they cost just as much as when they bought their liquor licenses. 

The owner of the Fibber McGees, Craig DeOrio, said he paid $100,000 for his liquor license. He said that if new licenses were to become available then they should also cost the same amount. 

If they start giving away licenses, business owners say, then the new businesses will have unfair competitive advantages because they were not required to sink money into the license and can use it for other aspects of the business.
