Once again the Cabot delivers. The crowd was movin’ and groovin’. Acapella is making a comeback and it feels so right. The house was full tonight when two acapella groups sung and harmonized their way into the ears and hearts of many.

The first act to come out on stage was a group called The Unwanted Bridesmaids. They did a thirty minute performance and I was skeptical to say the least. Their most talented singer seemed hidden almost off to the side like she was hopefully going to be forgotten about. Half way through the set I was falling asleep. The harmonies were off and the arrangements were weak. Now I must admit that for a group that is somewhat new and had only performed live twice before they were not bad. However it seemed like they couldn’t even take the time to practice in the basement or something. By the end of the opening act I was glad to see them go!

However when the headliner group “From Out Of Town” came to the change it seemed as if the whole theater lit up with energy and excitement. The singers were spot on, the harmonies were in sync and the arrangements were new, unique and well put together. The group made sure to mention each soloist although it would have been nice to have them go and introduce each member of the group separately. It must be said that the soloists that were chosen for each song that was sung was spot on. You could tell that there was thought, passion and mostly time and practice put into their performances.

The audience participation section in the show was so much fun. The individuals who did the “beat-boxing” had so much energy and really enjoyed showcasing their talents and trying to get audience members involved and ultimately to enjoy themselves which is exactly what happened. There was constant clapping, cheering and excitement throughout the whole second half of the show. It would have been nice to showcase each member of the group with a solo performance however, due to time constraints it is understandable why this was not possible. It cannot be said enough however how from an audience member’s perspective one member did not seem singled out or forgotten.

This group has so much going for them including but not limited to multiple albums and being seen on multiple television programs. They are also currently touring various parts of the United States and Canada. The next big show to hit The New Cabot is on May 17th & 18th when Beverly native Angie Miller comes to town for two hot shows.
