Beverly Author Does Book Reading

James Phoenix will read from Frame Up, the first book in the Fenway Burke Mystery Series, at a signing Friday, November 16th at 7 p.m. at Jabberwocky Bookshop at the Tannery Marketplace, 50 Water Street Newburyport, MA.  Refreshments will be served.

Fenway Burke is cast by Phoenix in the same blunt, masculine first person style of so many great, hardboiled detective novels.

In Frame Up, Fenway is recruited by a childhood friend who is now Boston’s largest bookie to win the release of a wrongly convicted man.

He covers the same turf as Robert Parker’s Spencer, but his home base is a rusting, steel-hulled boat moored in Marblehead Harbor.

A Newburyport High School graduate, Phoenix spent his apprenticeship as a student, a dishwasher, a waiter, a factory worker, a construction laborer, a stone tender, a weightlifter, a bouncer, a lobsterman, a salesman and a successful international hi-tech entrepreneur.
