Mass. Task Force One Joins Sandy Relief Efforts in New York City
Beverly-based Massachusetts Task Force 1 operating with the FDNY Special Operations Unit in Queens.

Massachusetts Task Force 1 ( MA-TF 1) Urban Search and Rescue Team (US&R)Â joined relief efforts Tuesday in New York City, following Hurricane Sandy.Â
MA-TF 1 Director of Emergency Management Mark Foster sent Beverly Patch this photo from New York. The team is currently operating in at the Rockaway Pennisula in Queens, New York with the FDNY Special Operations Unit.Â
The Urban Search and Rescue teams are comprised of Police, Fire, EMS and Civilians who respond to major disasters under a contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Currently there are 150 people on the MA-TF 1 team, headquartered in Beverly.Â
