BEVERLY -- Montserrat College of Art's Summer Pre-College Program will welcome 100 students from across the country to downtown Beverly this weekend. The students will be in residence on the Montserrat campus for three weeks while earning three college credits and developing their portfolios for art school applications next year. This is the largest class of pre-college students the college has ever hosted.

The Pre-College program is intended for rising juniors and seniors and students come recommended by their high school art teachers. They are enrolled in an immersive, three-week college-level program which includes an intensive introduction to the life and expectations at an art college. Students receive rigorous visual art instruction and time to cultivate their foundation drawing skills, as well as discover new subjects and mediums through elective offerings. The program mirrors the personalized scale of Montserrat's BFA program, affording students small class sizes and individual attention. Their classes include digital photography, animation, printmaking, illustration, graphic design, drawing, 3D design and painting. Beyond classes, students travel to museums and art galleries to widen their art exploration and knowledge.
The students will be in Beverly through July 31 and their program ends with an art exhibition and scholarship awards reception.

This year's Pre-College class comes from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Washington DC, and Louisiana.
