Obituary: John F. Egan Jr.; Engineer, Lifelong Resident of Beverly

U.S. Navy Veteran.

John F. Egan, Jr., beloved husband of the late Jean (Shea) Egan, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Kaplan House in Danvers. Born in Beverly, on May 31, 1924, he was the son of the late of John F. Egan and Barbara (Duran) Egan.

John spent his entire life in Beverly. He graduated from Beverly High School and enjoyed attending his class reunions. John was a United States Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He then worked at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation as an Engineer for over 40 years. In 1948 John married his wife, Jean, with whom he shared 66 loving years together. They raised six children in their small house in the Cove and continued to live there until moving to The Herrick House in 2013. John and Jean were very close to their neighbors and “Club” friends and enjoyed getting together for any occasion.

When his sons were young, John was a Beverly Little League coach. As his children grew, he enjoyed attending their sporting events and was very proud of all his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic and academic success.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Herrick House in Beverly and Kaplan House in Danvers for the compassionate care they provided John and his family.

John is survived by five sons, Thomas and his wife, Linda, Dennis and his wife, Janet, John and his wife, Dawn, Joseph and his wife, Marie and Christopher and his wife, Carrie; and one daughter, Jean Belanger and her husband, Kevin; eleven grandchildren, Lindsey, Alison, Daniel, Jacqueline, John Patrick, Ashlee, Ryan, Jessica and Courtney Egan, and Jocelyn and Nicole Belanger. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara MacDonald and brother, Robert and his wife, Ann, as well as, several nieces and nephews. In addition, to his wife, Jean, John was predeceased by his parents, John F Egan and Barbara (Duran) Egan, and sister, Phyllis (Egan) Barry.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church, on Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Tuesday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 P.M. Burial will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
