Obituary: Phyllis Kappotis; Loved Movies, Bowling and Trips to Old Orchard Beach

She worked in customer service at the old Jordan Marsh at the NorthShore Mall for 36 years.

Phyllis Kappotis, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Saint Vasilios parishioner, passes away at 85

Phyllis Ethel (Sawyer) Kappotis was born on June 30, 1929 and was raised in the farmlands of West Peabody. On Saturday morning, July 13, she passed away in peace at her Beverly home, just shy of her 86th birthday, with family by her side.

Mrs. Kappotis is survived by her sons, Charles Kappotis of Beverly, John (wife Gail) Kappotis of Naples, Florida, and Ernie (wife Ann) Kappotis of Peabody, and by her daughter, Christine (husband Joseph) Soucy of Nashua, New Hampshire. Phyllis was married to her beloved husband, George (who passed away in 2009) for 59 years.

Phyllis is also remembered by her brother Curtis (wife Mabel) Sawyer of Bridgewater and sisters, Carol Bandville of New Hampshire and Janice Sicott of Beverly. She was predeceased by her brother, George Sawyer.

Mrs. Kappotis was also very close with her sisters-in-law, Angie Eftim and Mildred Baltoumas of Peabody, and her brothers-in-law, Peter Kappotis of Peabody and Ernie (wife Susan) Kappotis of Florida. Phyllis, Angie and Mildred (“Millie”) are affectionately known by their family as “The Golden Girls”.

Phyllis was also very proud of her 10 grandchildren: Stephen Kappotis of Beverly, Melissa Kappotis of Watertown, Jennifer (husband Daniel) Mancini of Beverly, Jayson Soucy of New Mexico, Amie (husband Michael) Adams of Walpole, , Jeramy Soucy of New Hampshire, Ernie (wife Jennifer) Kappotis of Peabody, Eric (wife Amy) Kappotis of Westford, Dante Kappotis (girlfriend Kristen) of Peabody, and Genestra Kappotis of Naples, Florida.

Mrs. Kappotis was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren, and is survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends. Phyllis loved bowling and movie-going with her friends, Dotty, Evy, and Beverly, and she enjoyed her trips to Old Orchard Beach with her sister-in-law, Angie and to Cape Cod with Dotty.

Mrs. Kappotis worked at the old Jordan Marsh at the NorthShore Mall for 36 years, in customer service and gift wrap, where she made several friends. She raised her 4 children in Peabody, before moving to Beverly with her husband, George.

Phyllis and George enjoyed square-dancing and traveling with their friends. Two of their favorite trips were to Greece and Hawaii.

Phyllis Kappotis will be missed by her family and friends. Visiting hours will be Sunday, June 21 at Mackey Funeral Home in Middleton from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Saint Vasilios Church on Monday, June 22 at 10:00 am, followed by her burial at Harmony Grove Cemetery on the Peabody/Salem line. Family and friends are warmly invited to both.
