Police: Woman Attempts to Bring Knife, Marijuana, Pipe into Salem Courthouse

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:
 

Wednesday, May 14:

  • At 4:29 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Jackson Street.
  • At 6:35 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Broad Street.
  • At 6:48 p.m., police responded to a report of threats on Pope Street.
  • At 7:53 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Essex Street.
  • At 8:11 p.m., police responded to a past assault on Salem Street.
  • At 8:53 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Buffum Street. Matthew G. Jervinis, 41, of 36 Buffum St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and threatening to commit a crime (murder).
  • At 9:36 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious group in the bushes near the intersection of Lafayette and Derby streets.
  • At 9:53 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Butler Street.
  • At 11:22 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Lafayette Street.
  • At 11:58 p.m., police responded to a report of a party walking out on a $5 tab at The Lobster Shanty on Front Street.

Thursday, May 15: 

  • At 1:07 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Grove Street. Daryn M. Stokes, 43, of 16 Phillips St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 1:21 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Porter Street.
  • At 3:56 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Lee Street.
  • At 6:43 a.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Heritage Drive.
  • At 7:35 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Ord Street.
  • At 7:38 a.m., a Hancock Street man called police to report that a $25 plant was stolen off of his porch.
  • At 10:50 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Fowler Street.
  • At 11:55 a.m., police were called to a courthouse on Federal Street after security determined someone tried to bring a knife and drug paraphernalia into court. When going through security, officers determined a woman had a folding knife, a glass pipe filled with marijuana and a rolled joint in her purse. The woman was issued a $100 fine for marijuana possession and the knife and pipe were confiscated by police.
  • At 11:56 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on North Street.
  • At 12:17 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Cavendish Circle. George E. Thompson, 47, of 5 Cavendish Circle, Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
  • At 2:08 p.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered on Bridge Street.
  • At 3:04 p.m., police responded to a report of harassment on Leach Street. Wyatt L. Paige, 34, of 293 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on charges of violating an abuse prevention order, intimidating a witness and threatening to commit a crime.
  • At 3:51 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Palmer Street.
  • At 3:56 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Barton Street.
